Pear & Gorgonzola Personal Pizza

Overview:

So, I have another personal pizza recipe for you guys! To be honest, I had a package of pita bread lying around that I needed to use before I move out of my college apartment, so I thought that making different pizzas would be a fun idea. As stated in my last post, I used whole wheat because of the higher fiber content. Read more about it here.

I was initially inspired by this combination by a salad I had at Z Pizza. I really loved the flavors and wanted to try it out on my own. This pizza combination is probably something that may seem unorthodox or "weird" to some people because of the pear. However, the pear and gorgonzola combo is a thing! I looked it up! I'm pretty sure people though pineapple was strange to put on a pizza as well but now it's a common thing you find at most pizza places. Now, let's give power to the pear! Yeah!

My pear & gorgonzola pizza is definitely something interesting to try out! You will find it to be sweet from the pear and savory because of the cheese. It is super easy and quick if you don't have time to make a fancy dinner.

This pizza is vegetarian but can easily be made gluten-free by using gluten-free pita bread.

This recipe serves 1 comfortably or 2 as a side dish.

Ingredients:

1 whole wheat pita round
1-2 tbsp of pesto sauce*
1 oz of gorgonzola cheese, crumbled
1/4-1/2 of a pear
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/8-1/4 c walnuts**

Directions:

1. Preheat your oven to 450 degrees.
2. Spread your pesto sauce evenly onto the surface of the pita bread round. This is your pizza sauce.
3. Sprinkle your gorgonzola cheese evenly on the pita round as well.
4. Chop up your pear to create small, even-sized cubes. They don't need to be perfect.
5. Place the pear cubes evenly onto your pizza.
6. Season with garlic powder and black pepper.
7. Pop the pizza into the oven for 10-12 minutes or until the pita is getting crisp and the cheese is melted.
8. Let cool for a whole before dividing into four even slices.
9. Top with walnut pieces for a delicious and nutritious crunch! Enjoy!

 Notes:

*Just an estimate. I eyeballed this amount; you just need to evenly cover the bread's surface!
**This ingredient is not pictured and optional. Walnuts are pretty expensive. However, I HIGHLY recommend it if you are not allergic to nuts!
