Dirty Sexy Super Smoothie

Overview:

Yay! Today is the first day of summer! To celebrate this occasion, I have decided to share one of my favorite smoothie recipes with you all. I usually have this smoothie every morning post-workout as part of my breakfast.

So...you may be curious about the title. To be honest, I had trouble naming this smoothie but I'll let you in on my reasoning behind this title. First of all, this smoothie is the color of poop. Or dirt. Or just not a color you'd necessarily see while watching a gorgeous beach sunset. Hence, the "dirty" part. You can credit that to the mixed berries I used. Secondly, I love alliteration so "sexy super smoothie" seemed appropriate. Fruit is super sexy. Spinach is sexy too. It's a match made in heaven.

I love adding either spinach or kale in my smoothies because you can't taste them so you are secretly adding extra nutrition. I also love adding chia seeds to a lot of things I make because I really like the texture they provide (maybe that's why I also love boba so much?) and I am also able to get some extra fiber in my diet.

This smoothie is vegan and super easy to make. It takes just a few minutes to prepare as well. Enjoy in the morning as part of your breakfast! I must warn you though--this smoothie is very filling!

This recipe makes enough for one satisfying serving.

Ingredients:

1 medium-sized banana
2 c of spinach
1 Fuji apple*
1/2-1 c unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1/2 c frozen berries (I get mine at Costco)**
1 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
3-4 ice cubes

Layers of flavor!

Directions:

1. Wash your spinach and apple.
2. De-core and chop your apple into chunks.
3. Pour your almond milk into the blender.***
4. Put the rest of fruit and vegetables into the blender. I usually put the apple and banana (in chunks) next, followed by the spinach.
5. Add the chia seeds.
6. I add the frozen fruit**** last with the ice because they are the "hardest." Why do I do this? I'm not sure. I just do. I also really like a cold smoothie.
7. Pulse and blend until you get a smoothie-like consistency. You make need to stop periodically and use a spoon to push the ingredients down, especially the spinach.
8. Grab a cup/glass and pour your smoothie in. I used a mason jar because they are honestly super cute and Pinterest-y. Yeah, I went there. Anyways, you may need to use a spoon to get the sides the blender too.
9. Add a half-sliced strawberry on the top of your container for garnish if you desire (or if you want to Instagram it like I did). Enjoy!

It's radioactive!

Notes:

*Or any apple of your choice. Try going for a small/medium sized apple though.
**Feel free to use fresh fruit! I just like my smoothie super cold.
***Honestly, I just eyeballed the measurement. What I do is I just fill up my blender with almond milk until it reached the top of the blades.
****If you would like to opt out of making this smoothie "dirty," feel free to omit the berries. Just the apple and banana are sweet enough to make this drink delicious and you'll end up with a traditional green smoothie. Yum!

Much hipster. Drink and relax.
